German Taurus missiles would significantly boost Ukraine's capabilities – UAF

German-made Taurus cruise missiles would “significantly” enhance Ukraine’s capacity to defend against the Russian invasion due their superior characteristics compared to UK and French counterparts, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on Aug. 9.

“Of course, the Taurus missile is yet another cruise missile that would greatly enhance our capabilities,” said Ihnat.

“The missile has somewhat more robust tactical and technical characteristics than its French and English analogues."

For several months, the Ukrainian military has been using Anglo-French Strom Shadow/SCALP-EG air-launched cruise missiles to deliver deep strikes at key nodes in the Russian military logistics network across the occupied parts of eastern and southern Ukraine.

On Aug. 6, German newspaper Der Spiegel reported that two prominent members of Germany’s Social Democratic Party, headed by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, advocate for Berlin to transfer over Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

On Aug. 3, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius once again stated that Germany would not transfer Taurus to Ukraine, citing Washington’s reluctance to provide Kyiv with ATACMS missiles.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
