Ukraine asks Germany for its long-range precision Taurus missiles

27 May 2023, 11:47 AM

The Ukrainian government has officially requested Taurus long-range missiles from Germany, the Germany Ministry of Defence press office reported on May 26, according to the Spiegel newspaper.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed this matter in early May.

Retired Bundeswehr colonel and opposition MP from the Christian Democratic Union, Roderich Kiesewetter, called on Germany to transfer the Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine on May 23.

The Taurus KEPD 350 is a Swedish-German air-to-surface high-precision guided cruise missile with a more than 500-kilometer (310 miles) flight range. They are used for attacking heavily fortified and underground targets without exposing the aircraft to opposing air defense.
