Putin rejects Trump’s ‘heaven-sent’ peace deal to satisfy personal vendetta

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has abandoned rational strategy in favor of personal vendetta, rejecting a peace proposal from U.S. President Donald Trump due to an all-consuming hatred for Ukraine, political analyst Abbas Gallyamov told Radio NV.
Gallyamov explained that Putin is no longer guided by state interests but by raw emotion as after four years of failing to dismantle Ukraine, Russian dictator feels personally humiliated.
"He acts irrationally," Gallyamov stated.
"His hatred for Ukraine has intensified many times over because Ukraine proved to be too much for him to handle."
The analyst noted the irony of Putin’s position: the dictator launched a surprise invasion expecting a one-week victory, yet the conflict has now lasted longer than the "Great Patriotic War" [WWII - ed.]. Despite the world watching the "great strategist" fail, Putin remains obsessed with a total victory that eludes him.
Trump’s confidence that he could end the war in 24 hours stemmed from the fact that his proposed terms were incredibly favorable to the Kremlin — far better than anything offered under the Biden administration.
"Trump simply underestimated the degree of hatred seething in Putin," Gallyamov explained.
While reason suggested Putin should take the deal, the dictator's ego demanded "just a little more" — specifically the total seizure of the Donbas — to present as a triumph. Because Ukraine refuses to grant him this "success," Putin has retreated back into his cycle of hatred.
Deadlock in Geneva
This psychological impasse was evident as the latest round of trilateral talks concluded in Geneva on Feb. 18. While U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff claimed "substantial progress," other reports suggest the process has hit a wall.
The Standoff: President Zelenskyy confirmed that while monitoring for a ceasefire has been discussed, progress on core issues remains stagnant.
The 'Anchorage Formula': The Kremlin continues to demand the total withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the Donbas and a freeze of current frontlines in the south and east.
Kyiv’s red line: Zelenskyy has reiterated that Ukraine will never surrender the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Presidential Office, characterized the Geneva discussions as difficult but essential, while Russian lead negotiator Vladimir Medinsky called them "complex but businesslike."
However, as long as Putin’s irrational obsession dictates Russian policy, a final resolution remains out of reach.
