Russia tests intercom emergency alerts amid missile threats
Russian authorities plan to use intercom systems to warn residents about missile strikes, propaganda media outlet RIA Novosti, citing Minister of Emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov, wrote on Dec. 24.
Intercoms will become part of Russia's emergency alert system but is not planned to replace the primary channels, such as telecommunications networks, radio, and television broadcasts.
This 'know-how' comes amid an increase in missile strikes across Russian territory, as citizens have repeatedly complained about the lack of warning systems and accessible shelters during air raids.
Some Russian oblasts, including Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod, are already using intercoms to issue missile strike warnings. Trials to integrate intercoms into the alert system have been conducted in Lipetsk and Vladimir oblasts, as well as in Saint Petersburg.
“In Perm Krai, authorities successfully transmitted emergency information from the 'Russian Emergency Situations Ministry' mobile app to residents via intercoms,” Kurenkov added.
