The SAMP-T anti-air battery Italy and France pledged to provide to Ukraine will be deployed within two months, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told Rai News on Feb. 2.

According to the minister, SAMP-T will begin “to operate on the territory of Ukraine within the next seven to eight weeks.”

In his opinion, it’s hard to make predictions about the liberation of the Ukraine’s Crimea and other temporarily occupied territories, but Tajani has no doubts that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin “will definitely look for a way out.”

“As an international community, we must devote ourselves to protecting the independence of Ukraine and the cause of peace,” he added.

On Jan. 30, Reuters reported that France and Italy signed a contract for the purchase of up to 700 missiles for SAMP-T anti-aircraft missile systems, presumably to be subsequently delivered to Ukraine.

At the end of December 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, after which Rome announced plans to deliver modern air defense systems to Ukraine.
