Ukrainian air defense intercepts 60 out of 94 Russian drones in overnight attack
Russia launched 94 drones against Ukraine overnight on Jan. 11, with Ukrainian air defense forces shooting down 60 of them, and 34 being lost from radar, the Ukrainian Air Force reported on Telegram.
The attack involved 94 Shahed strike drones and other types of drone imitators launched from the directions of Millerovo, Oryol, Bryansk, and Kursk in Russia.
"The air raid was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine," the statement reads.
The destruction of enemy drones by Ukrainian air defense was recorded in Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Donetsk oblasts, according to Ukrainian officers.
"Due to the fall of downed enemy drones, several buildings were damaged in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Poltava oblasts (no casualties were reported)," the Air Force stated.
“34 enemy drone imitators were locally lost (without negative consequences).”
Oleh Synehubov, the head of the Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, reported that window glass was damaged in a private residential building in the village of Vlasivka due to a downed Shahed drone. Additionally, Russian drones were found outside the village of Brayilivka and in fields near other settlements in Kharkiv Oblast, the official said.
The Kyiv Oblast Military Administration reported that debris from downed Russian targets was also found in Kyiv Oblast. However, this occurred in open areas away from populated areas, so there was no damage to infrastructure, officials stated.
Overnight on Jan. 10, Russia attacked Ukraine with 74 Shahed drones and other types of UAVs. The Air Force reported that air defense forces shot down 47 targets, and 27 did not reach their targets. The drones were launched from the directions of Millerovo, Oryol, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Russia.
According to Ukrainian officers, the fall of downed enemy drones damaged farm buildings, institutions, private homes, and vehicles in seven regions of Ukraine.
