10+ drone strikes pound Sumy, homes on fire
The Russian forces attacked Sumy and its oblast with kamikaze drones, with at least ten impacts recorded, regional governor Oleh Hryhorov reported on Aug. 25.
The strikes hit the territories of the Sumy and Romny communities. Preliminary reports indicate no fatalities, but information on possible casualties is being clarified.
Fires broke out at the impact sites and are being extinguished by rescue crews. The head of the Sumy City Military Administration, Serhii Kryvosheyenko, specified that residential houses in one of the community’s districts caught fire as a result of the strikes.
This attack follows another one, on Aug. 24, when the enemy targeted oblast's critical infrastructure, leading to local blackouts.
"Shelling with guided aerial bombs and attack drones left parts of the Bilopillia and Vorozhba communities without power," Hryhorov reported then.
"There were no casualties."
Suspilne Sumy added that two enemy drones hit a substation in Bilopillia, leaving part of the city without electricity. Residents were urged to stock up on water. Explosions were later heard in Sumy as well.
Sumyoblenergo confirmed that power disruptions resulted from the Russian strikes. Repair crews will begin restoration work as soon as the security situation allows.
