Kharkiv faces unprecedented strikes on energy infrastructure

Kharkiv endured an “unprecedented attack” on its energy infrastructure overnight, as Russian forces carried out a series of heavy strikes, including the use of ballistic weapons, mayor Ihor Terekhov reported on Feb. 3.
The assault on critical infrastructure lasted for several hours and described it as unprecedented in scale.
Terekhov reported that the city was forced to take an emergency technical step: draining the heating system in 820 residential buildings supplied by Kharkiv’s largest thermal power plant.
Local authorities clarified this was the only possible measure to prevent the heating network from freezing and suffering irreversible damage.
Disruptions to public electric transport are also expected. To maintain mobility in the city, additional bus routes have been launched.
Following the attack, two men aged 27 and 58 sought medical assistance, said Oleh Synehubov, head of the regional military administration.
Preliminary reports indicated that one of the strikes hit the Slobidskyi district of Kharkiv.
