Macron: security guarantees for Ukraine advancing

Progress has been made on security guarantees for Ukraine - specific contributions of each country in the so-called “coalition of the willing” will be finalized in early January, French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on X on Dec. 29.
Macron said that on the evening of Dec. 28 he joined several European leaders in an online conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump. This was followed by a separate conversation between Macron and Zelenskyy.
The French president said tangible progress was achieved on security guarantees, which he described as essential for a just and lasting peace. He added that countries belonging to the “coalition of the willing” will meet in Paris in early January to finalize the concrete commitments of each participant.
“We are making progress on security guarantees, which will be key to building a just and lasting peace," Macron wrote.
"At the beginning of January, we will bring together the countries of the ‘coalition of the willing’ in Paris to complete the agreement on the specific contributions of each.”
Earlier on Dec. 28, the presidents of Ukraine and the United States held a meeting in Florida to discuss the parameters of a peace plan. After the talks, Zelenskyy said that the 20-point plan was roughly 90% agreed, with U.S. security guarantees already finalized at 100%.
According to Zelenskyy, security guarantees in the U.S.–Europe–Ukraine format are nearly complete, while discussions on Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction plan are still being finalized.
