Macron stuck in New York traffic because of Trump’s motorcade — video
French President Emmanuel Macron found himself blocked on the streets of New York on Sept. 22 after leaving the UN General Assembly, French media BFMTV reported on Sept. 23.
U.S. police stopped him to make way for President Donald Trump’s motorcade.
Macron had just delivered a major speech at UN headquarters, formally announcing that France recognizes the State of Palestine, when he was held up outside.
“Sorry, Mr. President, but everything’s blocked right now,” one officer told him in footage shared by Brut. Moments later, the motorcade swept by.
Macron phoned Trump directly:
“You know what, I’m stuck out here on the street because everything’s blocked because of you,” he joked.
After several minutes, the street was reopened — but only for pedestrians — forcing Macron to continue his call with Trump while walking, instead of reaching the French mission.
The UN General Assembly session that day focused on Palestine, calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, hostage releases, climate issues, human rights, and reform of the UN system. Alongside France, Malta, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Monaco also announced recognition of Palestine.
