A combined Russian strike with drones and cruise missiles killed at least four people in Lviv Oblast, regional governor Maksym Kozytskyy reported on Telegram on Oct. 5.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi specified that the bodies were found in the village of Lapayivka. A 46-year-old man suffered severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, and is in critical condition. A 60-year-old woman has a contusion wound to the head; her condition is moderate.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported four deaths from the combined strike, with four others injured.

Prosecutors clarified that the victims were a family of four, including a 15-year-old girl. One more family member and two residents of neighboring homes were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. Three other victims received aid on site.

In Lviv, the Russian mass attack with missiles and drones left parts of the city without power. There is no confirmed information on hazardous emissions in Lviv, but it is best to close windows and stay in a safe place, Mayor Andriy Sadovyi warned.

The Sparrow industrial park caught fire in the city, but no injuries were reported.

Mass attack on Ukraine on Oct. 5

Russia began another assault on the evening of Oct. 4, launching several waves of drones. Overnight into Oct. 5, Ukraine's Air Force also detected the takeoff of Tu-95 strategic bombers and MiG-31K fighters, which fired Kinzhal and Kh-101 missiles.

The main wave of aerial targets headed toward western regions, particularly Lviv Oblast. It was the largest attack on the region since the full-scale war began.

Russian forces also launched a combined attack on the city of Zaporizhzhya using strike drones and guided bombs. The city saw disruptions in power and water supplies, along with a fire at an enterprise. One person was killed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia used more than 50 missiles and about 500 strike drones. The strikes hit Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa and Kirovohrad oblasts.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
