Ukraine’s military intelligence chief, Major General Kyrylo Budanov, visited Ukrainian positions at the front line in Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, the Ministry reported on Telegram on Dec. 28.
Bakhmut remains one of the hottest places at the front line. Russian forces have attempted to seize the city for more than half a year, allocated a great deal of manpower there and taking massive losses in response. Despite these efforts, Bakhmut’s defenders still hold the line.
Serhiy Cherevaty, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian military’s Eastern Group of Forces, said that Russia suffers 50 to 100 troops killed in action there daily, with a similar amount injured.
According to Cherevaty, the defeat of the Russian grouping at Bakhmut will allow the Ukrainian army to achieve several important goals:
· Preventing Russia from seizing operational space
· Stopping the Russian offensive in its tracks
· Inflicting mass casualties on the Russian forces in the area
The commander of Ukraine’s Ground Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said the capture of Bakhmut would be a symbolic victory for the Russian invaders.
