The Russian forces have used 640 Shahed drones against Ukraine in the first half of September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on Telegram on Sept. 16.

He highlighted that most of them are being shot down by Ukraine’s air defense forces.

"We work to make Ukraine’s air shield more effective," Zelenskyy wrote.

"We are reinforcing our Air Force, mobile fire teams, and all air defense units."

He also thanked Ukraine's air defense for their effective work, after 53 of 56 Shahed-131/136 drones were intercepted overnight on Sept. 16.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
