NASAMS and Aspide air defense systems have arrived in Ukraine, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said on Twitter on Nov. 7.

“Look who’s here! NASAMS and Aspide air defense systems arrived in Ukraine!” he wrote.

“These weapons will significantly strengthen (the Ukrainian army) and will make our skies safer.”

“We will continue to shoot down the enemy targets attacking us. Thank you to our partners: Norway, Spain and the US,” he wrote.

Two NASAMS systems were part of an $820 million military aid package for Ukraine announced by the United States on July 1. And on Aug. 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day, the Pentagon announced a new aid package from the United States worth nearly $3 billion that includes six more NASAMS systems and shells for them.

Raytheon Technologies, the US-based manufacturer of NASAMS, reported on Oct. 25 that it had handed the first two systems over to the US government a few weeks before and they were ready to be shipped to Ukraine.
