Ukraine's air defense thwarts massive Russian drone attack

Sixty-five of 100 Shahed attack and other types of drones launched from Russia’s Oryol, Bryansk, and Kursk oblasts, as well as from Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Cape Chauda in occupied Crimea were shot down overnight over 12 Ukrainian oblasts, the Air Force reported on Telegram on Jan. 28.

Another 28 imitation attack drones were suppressed by electronic warfare. Two more flew toward Russia and Belarus. The hunt for one remaining one drone is still underway.

Damage to various residential buildings and private homes, enterprises, infrastructure facilities, and vehicles were reported by authorities in Odesa, Kyiv, Sumy, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv oblasts. Efforts to eliminate the consequences of the Russian attack are ongoing.

On the same day, the Belarusian Hajun monitoring group reported that the country's air defense shot down a Russian Shahed drone that entered the country's airspace in the overnight attack on Ukraine.
