Russian drones injure four, set cars ablaze in nighttime attack on Odesa
The Russian army launched an attack on Odesa using Shahed drones, with one person successfully rescued from a blocked apartment, city mayor Hennadii Trukhanov reported on Telegram on Jan. 28.
As a result of the drone strike, four people were injured, including a 91-year-old man who was hospitalized. Other victims received medical aid on-site.
Debris from downed drones damaged the windows of four apartment buildings and five private homes. In one Odesa residential courtyard, 10 civilian vehicles caught fire, but firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. A grain storage facility was also damaged.
City mayor highlighted the attack consequences in his post.
"The blast wave shattered windows in the affected area," Trukhanov wrote.
"City services are working to clear the aftermath of the strike."
He also announced the establishment of an operational headquarters, where residents can apply for financial assistance and receive materials to temporarily cover broken windows and other damages.
Meanwhile, Odesa Oblast governor Oleh Kiper reported that air defense systems were active in the area and successfully intercepted a Russian missile.
Russia launched multiple waves of Shahed drones towards Ukraine overnight on Jan. 28. Air raid sounded in several oblasts, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Cherkasy, with reports of explosions in these areas.
