Norway may host next Ukraine Peace Formula summit — Zelenskyy
The next round of multilateral talks on Ukraine’s
peace proposals may take place in Oslo, Norway, Ukrainian President
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Aug. 24.
Zelenskyy made the announcement at a press conference following a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
“Norway is actively joining global efforts to implement the [Ukrainian] peace formula,” the president said.
“We would welcome a round of negotiations in Oslo and are grateful to Norway for their support in preparing the Global Peace Summit.”
Zelenskyy also thanked Norway for its decision to provide F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine and further support in the energy and humanitarian sectors.
On the same day, Støre arrived in Kyiv on a visit. He confirmed the transfer of the F-16 planes, with the number of aircraft and time of delivery to be announced later.
Zelenskyy presented a 10-point peace formula at the G20 summit in November 2022, which includes the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity, the withdrawal of Russian troops, the release of all POWs, a tribunal for those guilty of aggression, and security guarantees for Ukraine.
Roundtable peace talks on the formula were held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Aug. 5–6, which were attended by high-level officials and diplomats from approximately 40 countries. Russia was not invited.
This was the second meeting in such a format — the previous one took place in June in Copenhagen, Denmark.
