DeepState refutes ISW report on Kurakhove capture
The military-analytical project DeepState on Dec. 28 refuted a report by the Institute forthe Study of War (ISW) about the possible capture of Kurakhove in Donetsk
Oblast.
The project’s statement reads: “The information from ISW
about the ‘possible capture of Kurakhove’ is not true. Fighting continues on
the western and southern outskirts, although the trends are certainly
concerning,” analysts stated.
DeepState also updated its battle map, noting that Russian
forces had advanced near Shevchenko, Yantarnyi, Rozlyv, Rivnopil, Kurakhove,
and Toretsk.
On Dec. 27, ISW reported that Russian forces had likely
captured Kurakhove after two months of intensive offensive operations. The ISW
stated that Russian troops had advanced to the administrative borders of
Kurakhove and seized the settlement and fields south of the town and north of
Dalhnyi.
Russia had ramped up its offensive on the city in
mid-October 2024.
According to reports, the aggressor had concentrated between
35,000 and 36,000 troops toward Kurakhove in recent months and likely suffered
significant losses during this period.
Over the past two months, the invaders also carried out
numerous armored attacks on Kurakhove and its vicinity, likely suffering
considerable equipment losses.
On Dec. 24, DeepState reported that Russian forces had
occupied Makarivka, Sukhi Yaly, and Zelenevka in Donetsk Oblast.
Ukraine’s Joint Forces Operations Command (JFOC) confirmed
that Ukrainian troops had lost some positions on the Kurakhove front.
