Odesa 'journalist' resurfaces in Russian army
A former Ukrainian journalist from Odesa, Alik Vetrov, has been identified as fighting for Russia against Ukraine, the Institute of Mass Information (IMI) reported on May 20.
He was recognized in social media posts featuring photos and videos from the war zone, including a selfie with a North Korean Koksan self-propelled artillery unit serving in one of the newly created Russian artillery brigades.
Odesa journalists and activists confirmed his identity.
Vetrov openly acknowledges his participation in the war against Ukraine, sharing photos of himself in a Russian military uniform.
In 2015, Vetrov was linked to a pro-Russian so-called “constituent conference of the People's Council of Bessarabia” in Odesa that was disrupted by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU). He was among the detained organizers who were suspected of separatism.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
