Organizers tighten security at 2026 Oscars amid Iranian drone threats

The FBI warned California law enforcement about potential Iranian drone attack, prompting organizers of the 2026 Oscars to tighten security, Variety reported on March 11.
According to ABC News, the FBI notified law enforcement across California that Iran could potentially respond to U.S. military actions by launching drones toward the West Coast.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials did not comment on the information, but they told the LA Times in a statement that the department continues to operate in a "heightened state of readiness and maintains increased vigilance."
At the red carpet rollout ceremony on March 11, organizers said that preparations for security measures are standard and thorough.
"I feel like for this show, we have one of the best teams in the business across the board, and that is because of our security team," Oscar executive producer Raj Kapoor said.
"So, of course, every year we monitor what is happening in the world. We have the support of the FBI and the LAPD [City of Los Angeles Police Department - ed.], and it is a close collaboration."
Variety's sources said that security measures have been enhanced, but it is not very noticeable.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not comment on the situation.
2026 Oscars ceremony will take place on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre.
Suspilne Kultura will broadcast it in Ukraine. The awards ceremony starts at 4:00 p.m. local time and 1:00 a.m. Kyiv time.
