The Russian army attacked Kremenchuk oil refinery with 60+ missiles and 260 drones in an attempt to destroy Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said at Verkhovna Rada plenary session on March 13.
The total number of enemy aerial targets aimed at the enterprise was actually even higher.
"Russians are trying to destroy the Ukrainian energy sector, including our oil refining, with thousands of missiles and drones," he said.
"Russia spent over 60 missiles on the Kremenchuk oil refinery alone."
"These are actual hits — 60 cruise and ballistic missiles," he added.
"Also, 260 drones struck this enterprise. Of course, significantly more were launched."
In the summer of 2022, former Poltava Oblast Military Administration head Dmytro Lunin said that the Kremenchuk oil refinery and the Kremenchuk combined heat and power plant were destroyed following Russian missile strikes. He emphasized that they cannot be restored and will have to be built from scratch.
Kremenchuk oil refinery is a key asset of the Ukrtatnafta company. Until Oct. 2022, it was effectively under the control of the so-called Privat group of Ihor Kolomoisky and Hennadiy Boholiubov, before later passing into state ownership. It was severely damaged by Russian missile attacks.
