It is “incorrect” to say that Vladimir Putin rejected a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine that U.S. representatives discussed in the Kremlin on Dec. 2, dictator's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed at a briefing on Dec. 3.

He alleged that Dec. 2 marked the first direct exchange of views between Russia and the United States on the peace plan — “some things were accepted, some were deemed unacceptable.”

According to the Kremlin spokesperson, Russian representatives will meet with the Americans “for as long as it takes.”

Moscow cynically insists that the quieter the peace talks are, the more effective they will be. The aggressor state expects the United States to follow the same principle.

Peskov added that a phone call between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump “is possible at any moment,” but for now, results must first be achieved at the expert level.

On Dec. 2, the Kremlin hosted a meeting between Putin, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, and U.S. President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The talks reportedly lasted five hours. Media later reported that the Russian dictator arrived about 2.5 hours late.

The negotiations focused on proposals to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, drafted after talks between Ukrainian and U.S. delegations in Florida on Nov. 30 about the U.S.-backed 28-point peace plan.

After the meeting, Putin’s aide Yury Ushakov said the sides had not yet reached a compromise on the peace plan. According to him, the territorial issue “is the most important” both for Russia and for the U.S. side. At the same time, Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev described the meeting as “productive.”

On Dec. 3, Kyiv Post journalist Alex Raufoglu reported that a meeting between Witkoff and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which was supposed to take place in Europe on Wednesday following the Moscow talks, had been cancelled.
