Poland tracks balloon-like objects overnight

Polish military radar systems detected additional intrusions into Poland’s airspace overnight by objects resembling balloons, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces reported on Feb. 9.
The objects were continuously monitored by military reconnaissance systems, the military wrote and stressed that the situation remained under control.
The incidents posed no threat to civilian safety or to air traffic.
“Acting in line with established procedures, the Armed Forces are cooperating with state security services and promptly sharing all necessary information,” the Command wrote.
“This enables rapid responses, including the interception of objects and the detention of individuals suspected of involvement in these incidents.”
The military did not provide further details.
Polish authorities have previously linked similar incidents to hybrid activities along the country’s eastern border.
On Jan. 28, smuggling balloons reportedly entered Polish airspace from Belarus — an incident later classified as part of hybrid actions targeting Poland.
On Jan. 17, Polish outlet RMF24 reported that two smuggling balloons carrying illegal cigarettes — believed to have originated from Belarus — were found in the Podlaskie Voivodeship in northeastern Poland.
