Romania issued an air raid alert early May 1 as Russian drones attacked Ukrainian ports on the Danube, the Defense Ministry said, noting the warning was triggered by drone activity near the border.
Romania detected a group of nine drones during a Russian overnight attack on southern Ukraine’s Odesa region, the defense ministry said, triggering an air raid alert in Tulcea county. A RO-Alert warning was issued at 03:36 a.m.
No violations of Romanian airspace were recorded. Explosions were heard on the Ukrainian side of the Danube, including in Izmail and Kiliia. The alert in Romania was lifted at 04:03 a.m.
In the early hours of May 1, Russia attacked Odesa and Izmail. According to the Odesa regional administration, two multi-story residential buildings were damaged in Odesa and two people were injured. Port infrastructure in the region was also damaged.
After a Russian attack overnight on April 25, drone debris was found three times on Romanian territory. That strike damaged homes and port infrastructure in the Odesa region and injured two people.
