Russia hits Odesa’s railway depot with Shahed drones
Russian forces launched a massive Shahed drone attack overnight, striking a Ukrzaliznytsia railway depot in Odesa, Ukraine’s Restoration and Communities and Territories Development Minister Oleksii Kuleba reported on Oct. 2.
Updated at 9:03 a.m.: Fire erupted at railway depot, SES added. A firefighting train was used to deal with the attack aftermath.
A roof and windows of a residential building were shattered. Two people were injured in total.
A train driver in the depot, sustained shrapnel wounds in the attack.
The invaders also targeted railway infrastructure in border minicipalities in northern Ukraine, including in Konotop, Sumy Oblast. Trains were stopped at a safe distance from the strike zones; the overhead power lines have been restored, and trains are now running again.
Kuleba added that some routes on the Chernihiv and Sumy lines are experiencing delays due to the attack.
Explosions were heard in Odesa overnight, and the city’s mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov confirmed a drone attack. Air raid alerts were also declared in other oblasts, including Kyiv Oblast - as Russian forces struck city of Bucha.
