Russia has started launching Iranian-made suicide drones from Krasnodar Krai, the North Caucasus region, instead of Crimea, the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense tweeted on Dec. 17.
The MoD speculates that this change in launch site may have to do with the vulnerability of Russian positions in Crimea to Ukrainian attack, as well as to ease logistical difficulties – Iran and Russia both have access to the Caspian Sea, and Krasnodar Krai is closer to that sea than Crimea.
On Dec. 16, Russia carried out another mass missile strike against Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure in five oblasts of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force reported the launch of over 70 cruise missiles against Ukraine.
