By late Oct. 1, three Russian drones have hit Kyiv’s South
Bridge in less than one day.
The 1,250-meter-long, cable-stayed bridge across the Dnipro
River carries road and metro traffic.
The third drone strike damaged a bridge support, crash barrier, roadway, and the protective concrete barrier surrounding the metro tracks, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
Metro workers have de-energized the tracks, he said. Metro trains and public transportation over the bridge were suspended. Several buses were rerouted through the Darnytskyi railway bridge.
Earlier Oct. 1, dust entered a metro car through the ventilation system as a metro train crossed the South Bridge, likely because of a blast wave. No passengers were injured, and the car’s windows and structures were undamaged. The train was sent to a depot for further inspection.
Earlier that morning, Russian forces struck a school
building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district with a drone, damaging the facade and
starting a fire. More than 100 students and about 60 employees were in a
shelter at the time of the attack. No injuries were reported.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
