Putin’s war machine slowing down as Soviet-era weapons dry up - Russian media
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has significantly depleted the Soviet military-industrial complex legacy, therefore limiting Russia’s ability to sustain offensive operations, Russian outlet the Insider wrote on Jan. 29.
The Cold War-era stockpiles were originally intended for a global conflict with the capitalist bloc. A significant portion was dismantled, sent to Africa and Asia, or destroyed in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
"The Russian army is steadily approaching the point where the depletion of its heavy equipment fleet will seriously limit its ability to conduct offensive operations," the article wrote.
Most of the remaining stored equipment is in poor technical condition, making its repair and deployment unlikely. The reserves of operational equipment that can be quickly deployed to the front are estimated at approximately 2,000 tanks, 2,000 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), and 3,000 armored personnel carriers (APCs).
The report suggests that Russia’s military leadership will not allow the complete destruction of its heavy equipment fleet. As the replacement rate for losses declines, Russia will be forced to adjust its tactics and strategy sooner than expected or seek new sources of armored vehicles.
Most Western analysts believe that Russia will face a critical shortage of military equipment by the end of 2025 or in the first half of 2026, according to The Insider.
