In a conversation with Radio NV, former Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko described two factors that he says have made it inevitable that Russia will be defeated by Ukraine.
“(Western) weapons are already pouring in; specifically, the kinds that we need, even if belatedly,” said Ohryzko.
“On top of that, crippling Western sanctions, however incomplete they may be, will keep being prolonged; these are the two factors that leave Russia without any chances of victory (in Ukraine).”
“Russia has destroyed itself, and this process will only pick up pace,” Ohryzko said.
At the same time, the diplomat warned that the Russians can still hold on to some areas that they’ve captured, and commit further atrocities there.
He added that due to their unenviable position, Russia is capable of desperate moves:
“They already tried to scare us with nuclear threats, nuclear strikes and using other WMDs,” Ohryzko said.
On Feb. 27, only three days into his unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian nuclear deterrent into elevated combat readiness.
This caused some alarm around the world, and Putin’s spokesman later clarified that Russia would use nuclear weapons only if the country were to face an “existential” threat.
