Ukraine must outpace Russia’s tech response— RUSI analyst
Russia is countering Ukraine’s battlefield tech advances, and Kyiv must innovate to keep its edge, Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) analyst Jack Watling said at the 17th annual Kyiv Security Forum on May 9.
The 17th annual Kyiv Security Forum titled “UA: Unite Again to Defeat the Global Aggressor,” is organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Open Ukraine and serves as a platform for discussions on war and peace, as well as national and global security challenges.
Watling warned that Russia is adapting quickly.
“The enemy realized Ukraine has new technologies that are destroying them, and they are coming up with new solutions that allow them to fight back," he said.
"If we don’t present something new, Ukraine will lose this advantage.”
He added that while Ukrainian troops are adapting well, concepts and assumptions must also evolve. “That raises the question of what Ukraine’s partners should be investing in first,” he noted.
Watling pointed out that funding for explosives is now decreasing.
“The Russians see gaps here, just like in chip and microchip supply,” said the analyst, who has visited Ukraine multiple times since the start of the full-scale invasion and contributed to RUSI’s reports on various aspects of the war.
