Russian commanders in southern Ukraine put “expendable” mobilized units on the front lines, pulling elite regiments away from harm’s way, Ukrainian Southern Operational Command spokesperson Nataliya Humeniuk told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on Oct. 26.
“Elite units are retreating into the rear, while those who will first be holding off (the Ukrainian) offensive, those who are expendable, remain at the forefront,” said Humeniuk.
She noted this is a typical Russian approach to conducting military operations across Ukraine.
“This is an absolute classic of their behavior,” the official said.
“It has become clear to us, once we studied their past military operations.”
Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that invading Russian forces were trapped on the right bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast.
