Five State Emergency Service rescuers were killed and at least five others were injured in an overnight Russian double-tap strike in Kharkiv while they were extinguishing a fire, Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko reported on June 15.
The minister expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the fallen heroes.
"Unfortunately, we continue to lose those who save lives," Klymenko wrote.
He highlighted that the massive Russian attack is ongoing, with Kyiv bearing the brunt of the assault: "There is significant damage to civilian infrastructure. All necessary services are deployed to eliminate the consequences."
Klymenko urged citizens to remain in safe areas until the air raid sirens stop.
Overnight on June 15, the Russian army launched another massive attack on Kyiv using strike drones. Fires and direct hits on residential buildings were recorded across various districts of the capital, leaving some residents without electricity due to damaged energy infrastructure.
A fire also broke out on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Authorities reported substantial damage to the site.
Metropolitan Epifaniy condemned the strike on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, calling it a crime against history and Christianity.
