A Russian drone struck a children’s playground near the monument to Stepan Bandera in central Lviv in a nighttime attack, Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi reported on Jan. 15.
“A symbolic place — the one the aggressor fears the most,” Sadovyi wrote on Telegram.
A tractor driver and municipal workers were nearby clearing snow at the time of the strike, but no casualties have been reported so far.
The mayor added the blast wave shattered windows in a nearby university building of Lviv Polytechnic as well as in surrounding residential houses. Two streets were temporarily closed. Several trolleybuses were suspended.
Explosions were heard in Lviv early on Jan. 15 amid warnings of Shahed drone threats. Later, Lviv Oblast Military Administration head Maksym Kozytskyi confirmed that a UAV had struck central Lviv, on Stepan Bandera Street.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
