Russian drone flies in concerning proximity to Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant in night attack
A Shahed drone was recorded flying in close proximity to the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant (KhNPP) in the overnight Russian attack, local governor Serhii Tyurin reported on Telegram on Sept. 20.
"Russia continues its nuclear blackmail, directing missiles and drones toward Ukrainian nuclear power plants," he wrote.
"Today's incident with a Shahed near the KhNPP is yet another confirmation of this."
"That is why Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and all our representatives are actively calling on our partners to provide Ukraine with modern air defense systems so that we can protect not only ourselves but the entire continent from Russian terror," Tyurin added.
Air raid alerts were declared in several Ukrainian oblasts due to the threat of enemy drones and missile strikes from Russia overnight on Sept. 20.
One Kh-59 missile and 61 of 70 Shahed drones were shot down during the night, while the remaining nine drones were "lost radar contact", Ukrainian Air Force reported.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
