Russian drone struck a multi-story apartment building in Sumy, sparking a fire, acting Mayor Artem Kobzar reported on Oct. 20.
"Today around 2 a.m., an enemy strike drone impact was recorded against a multi-story residential building in the Zarichnyi district of our city. A fire broke out as a result of the strike," Kobzar stated.
Emergency rescue teams and municipal services deployed to the scene immediately to extinguish the flames and evaluate structural damage. Detailed information regarding civilian casualties and the full extent of the destruction is currently being clarified.
Systematic Bombardment of Sumy
Russian aviation struck the Sumy community with eight guided aerial glide bombs (KABs), four of which detonated within the regional administrative capital. The barrage killed a 42-year-old man and injured two other civilians.
Russian artillery forces targeted residential quarters of Sumy using long-range multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), firing four heavy artillery rockets into civilian sectors. The attack killed one resident and injured four others, including two children who suffered concussions and minor shrapnel wounds.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
