Ukraine downs 57 Shahed drones in Russian massive overnight attack
Russia launched 99 attack drones against Ukraine — including Shahed-type drones and various types of decoy UAVs, 93 of them failed to reach their targets in total, the Air Force reported on March 24.
Ukrainian defenders successfully downed 57 Shaheds over the country’s southern, northern, western, and central oblasts. In addition, 36 decoy drones were neutralized without causing any harm.
The attack affected Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Kirovohrad, and Zaporizhzhya oblasts.
The drones were launched from Millerovo, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia.
Ukraine’s air defense forces — including aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare (EW) systems, and mobile fire groups from the Air Force and Defense Forces — engaged in repelling the drone assault.
Russia launched the Shahed drone strike from both the north and south simultaneously on the evening of March 23. Kharkiv Oblast came under the guided bombs attack.
Air raid alert was declared in multiple oblasts, including Kyiv and its suburbs.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
