Russian troops have made gains in the Kramatorsk and Pokrovsk sectors of Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine’s DeepState analytical project reported on May 21.

According to the update, Russian forces have advanced near the villages of Nova Poltavka and Novooleksandrivka in Donetsk Oblast.

Analysts said Russian troops are aggressively capturing forest belts and reinforcing their presence there as they attempt to push further. The occupiers appear to have identified a weak spot in Ukrainian defenses near the village of Zelene Pole and are concentrating forces in its southern outskirts while advancing from Novosilka.

On May 20, DeepState reported that following recent Russian successes south of Novopil and Novosilka, the invading forces were intensifying pressure on Ukrainian positions by exploiting vulnerabilities along that part of the front line.
