A new ideological subject will be introduced in Russian universities next year, which would seek to convince students of the “glorious future of Russia” and the “decadent West,” Russian media outlet Meduza reported on Oct. 25.
Sources close to the Kremlin explain the initiative by saying that young people should understand in which direction Russia is heading, and why. The development of the new subject is directly supervised by the administration of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
The course is expected to be added to universities’ programs in the next academic year. According to the Kremlin’s plan, non-humanities students will study it for one year, humanities students – for several years, and historians and political scientists for the entire duration of their studies.
The main points of the subject are expected to be presented at the October conference of the Knowledge Society, which will be held in Russia’s Sochi, and are expected to align with the conservative ideology that Putin favors.
“The West is decaying, as it was constantly hurting Russia, but its time has passed, we have a great future, a rich history and culture,” one of Meduza’s sources described the content of the ideological course.
“We must use the moment of crisis and get everything out of it.”
In addition, it is expected that the subject’s implementation will help the Kremlin to purge liberal academics from universities across the country.
