Sweden is considering starting up weapons production to cover Ukrainian needs, said the Minister of Defense of Sweden, Peter Hultqvist, at a defense ministers conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, reported Swedish news outlet svt.se on Aug 11.

Defense ministers from a number of countries discussed different ways to support the Ukrainian defense against Russian aggression, and identified three key areas of support: military training, demining and weapons production. Sweden, which has provided 120 instructors to train the Ukrainian military, mentioned that it may also begin manufacturing weapons for the Ukrainian military.

“I don’t exclude this, but it is too early to say,” said Hultqvist.

“We participate positively in all three areas, but in the end we see how we can bring it all together.”

According to Hultqvist, Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic have already indicated that they can help with weapons production.

“We are talking about using production lines in different countries to produce weapons that can be delivered to Ukraine directly,” says Hultqvist.
