Kremlin ties tactical nuclear forces drills to Western troop readiness in Ukraine
Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons exercises are related to
the West’s readiness to deploy its troops in Ukraine, the
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, Russian propaganda publication RIA
Novosti claimed.
It refers to the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron, the UK representatives, as well House Minority Leader and Leader of the House Democratic Caucus, Hakeem Jeffries, Peskov explained.
"This is a completely new round of tensions escalation, it is unprecedented and, of course, it requires special attention and special measures to be taken," the Kremlin spokesperson alleged furiously.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin instructed the General Staff to prepare for exercises on tactical nuclear weapons use on May 6.
Possible deployment of NATO troops to Ukraine
After a conference on supporting Ukraine held in Paris on Feb. 26, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Ukraine's Western allies would create a coalition to provide Ukrainian Armed Forces with long-range weapons, and that sending Western troops to Ukraine in future should not be ruled out.
In response to Macron's statements, Poland, United States, Germany, Czechia, Canada, and United Kingdom publicly rejected idea of sending troops to Ukraine.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas did not rejected possibility of sending troops, but clarified that if they do, it will be only training missions. General Onno Eichelsheim, Chief of General Staff of Dutch Army, said that “all options should be open.”
European NATO states had been studying possibility of sending NATO troops to Ukraine for weeks, AFP news agency reported.
French troops could participate in war on side of Ukraine to protect certain borders, take part in exercises or ground air defense, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal explained on Feb. 29. He denied possiibility of French soldiers participation in battles “directly on front line.”
NATO foreign ministers agreed to create a special mission of Alliance to increase support for Ukraine Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on April 4.
