Deadly Russian strike devastates civilian homes in Odesa

Russian forces struck residential buildings in Odesa, leaving two people dead, local authorities reported on the night of April 24.
Updated at 07:13 a.m.: The two people killed in Odesa were a married couple, both 75 years old, Odesa Oblast Military Administration head Serhii Lysak reported. Another 15 people were injured, eight of whom are in hospitals.
Updated at 7:03 a.m.: The nighttime attack on Odesa killed two people and injured 14, the State Emergency Service (SES) reported.
Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure came under attack.
Specifically, a strike on a three-story residential building destroyed apartments and sparked a fire. Six people were injured at this location.
Two two-story residential buildings were also destroyed, where firefighters rescued one person and evacuated 20 others (including two children). Seven people were injured there.
In addition, another enemy UAV struck a two-story building, where two people died and another was injured. Sixteen residents were evacuated.
SES specialists provided assistance to over 50 residents (including three children) who were suffering from severe stress.
Rescuers published photos of the attack's aftermath.
Hits on several residential buildings—namely two two-story buildings and one three-story building — were recorded in the city, Odesa City Military Administration head Serhii Lysak reported a few hours earlier.
"Medics provided on-site assistance to two people at one location, while one woman was hospitalized from another; information on the victims is still being clarified," the report reads. A hit on a non-residential building was also recorded.
Civilian infrastructure was damaged in the city, Odesa Oblast State Administration head Oleh Kiper stated.
"One of the drones hit a three-story residential building," he wrote.
"Apartments on the second and third floors were destroyed. Unfortunately, two people were injured: a 72-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man sustained shrapnel wounds. The woman was taken to the hospital."
Windows were blown out in several other buildings, and cars were damaged, he added.
All operational and utility services are working at the scenes. Efforts to eliminate the consequences of the attack are ongoing.
