U.S.
intelligence sharing with Ukraine is currently working as usual, allowing authorities
to warn the public about incoming Russian missiles, President Volodymyr
Zelenskyy said on Oct. 20.
He made the comments during a joint news conference in Oslo with
Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Støre.
“We are grateful that intelligence sharing is working now,” Zelenskyy
said.
“Warnings are very important for people, children, and
civilians. We can hear when ballistic missiles are in flight. It is working now.”
Zelenskyy, Stubb, and Store met in Oslo with U.S. special envoy
Steve Witkoff, who then departed to Russia to deliver new proposals for security
guarantees for Ukraine that would be part of a potential peace deal.
On Oct. 19, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
journalist Alex Raufoglu reported that the United States had again failed
overnight to warn Ukraine about Russia’s use of ballistic missiles. Zelenskyy
later confirmed the report.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
