Ukraine's Defense Ministry unveils first domestic jet-powered drone interceptor Alexa Spatium

Ukraine's Defense Forces have added Alexa Spatium, the country's first domestically produced jet-powered drone interceptor, to their arsenal, the Defense Ministry said on Aug. 21.
According to the ministry, Alexa Spatium is a high-speed jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle developed by Ukrainian engineers to destroy small aerial, ground and surface targets in combat conditions.
The interceptor’s primary mission is to counter Russian Geran, Geran-4, Geran-5 and Shahed-131 attack drones. The system can also be used against reconnaissance drones, helicopters and other targets.
The Defense Ministry said the drone is equipped with a turbojet engine, has a high operational ceiling and long range, and can operate at different altitudes. It can be used against targets at predetermined coordinates or in direct guidance mode.
Other features of Alexa Spatium include the ability to carry different types of warheads, including high-explosive fragmentation, shaped-charge and thermobaric warheads. The drone is highly maneuverable, can be launched remotely and is equipped with search and targeting systems, including television and infrared sensors.
The drone measures about 1.5 by 1.7 meters (4.9 by 5.6 feet) and can be launched from a mobile catapult within minutes. Its composite-material construction allows it to perform sharp maneuvers without losing control.
The Defense Ministry also said Alexa Spatium can return to its launch site and be reused if it does not complete its mission.
On Aug. 14, former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said Ukraine was testing its first jet-powered interceptor drones, capable of speeds exceeding 600 kilometers per hour (370 mph) and designed to counter Russian jet-powered Shahed drones.
Yurii Ihnat, head of communications for the Ukrainian Air Force Command, said Russian forces used five times as many jet-powered drones in July 2026 as they did the previous month.
