Ukraine cuts drone strike loop to 3–5 minutes

battlefield management system, which integrates recon data from any number of
sources to provide for a real-time command-and-control platform, has
dramatically reduced the time it takes to plan and execute a drone strike, The
New York Times reported
on Aug. 26.
The article described the technology as one of the Ukrainian military’s most important technological advantages.
“The software pulls streams of battlefield intelligence, including drone video feeds, radio intercepts and satellite images, into a single platform that helps detect targets,” NYT writes.
“The system then distributes the targets to thousands of reconnaissance and attack drones that fly around the clock, helping to create a miles-wide ‘kill zone’ where anything that moves can be spotted and hit within seconds.”
Delta has reduced the so-called kill chain, the time between detecting a target and striking it, from about 20 minutes to three to five minutes, the report said
The platform also stores records of detected objects, allowing operators to track their movements and reducing the risk of repeated strikes on targets that have already been hit.
The project was launched by Ukrainian volunteers in 2014 and developed with NATO support. Delta gained widespread recognition after Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, particularly during the defense of Kyiv.
The next step is integrating artificial intelligence, The
New York Times reported. Kyiv is introducing automated target detection and
developing an AI assistant called SPECTR to help commanders analyze incoming
data and make decisions more quickly.
