Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry is finalizing a strategy for improving relations with Latin American countries, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister and former ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk said in an interview with NV on April 20.
The so-called “Global South” is a promising global region of which Ukraine has not had active relationships, the diplomat said.
“It was President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who held dozens of phone talks with the leaders of South and Central American countries, feeling the importance of this region, personally instructed our foreign policy department to develop a separate strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean,” he said.
The Foreign Ministry has been working on this fundamental strategy for months, Melnyk said.
“Today we are, so to speak, at the finish line,” he said.
The Foreign Ministry has also developed and approved two separate strategies for countries in Asia and Africa, the other regions of the so-called “Global South,” he said.
The deputy foreign minister added that the agency has also developed and approved two separate strategies for the countries of Asia and Africa, the other two regions of the “Global South.”
