Ukrainian defense forces struck Russian warships armed with Kalibr cruise missiles at the Novorossiysk naval base in Russia's Krasnodar Krai, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Sept. 9.
"Over the past 24 hours, there are concrete results in Novorossiysk in Krasnodar Krai," Zelenskyy stated.
"A naval base was struck: a terminal involved in oil transshipment, military harbor infrastructure, and warships that carry Kalibr missiles. I thank SBU, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Ukrainian Navy, HUR military intelligence, and the State Border Guard Service for their precision."
AFU General Staff confirmed the combined strike, reporting that fires erupted across the naval base perimeter as well as the commercial seaport's fuel oil terminal. Explosions were verified in the immediate berthing zones of Russian warships, with full damage assessments now underway.
Novorossiysk naval base serves as a crucial operational hub for Russia's Black Sea Fleet following its forced withdrawal from occupied Crimea, functioning as a primary technical maintenance and logistics center for Russian naval vessels.
Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) Robert "Madyar" Brovdi announced that defense units executed coordinated strikes against the Novorossiysk facility, destroying a number of Russian vessels, including missile-carrying platforms.
Madyar also reported successful strikes targeting Anapa in Krasnodar Krai. According to the commander, Ukrainian strike drones destroyed a Russian Su-33 carrier-based fighter jet, an Mi-8 helicopter, and two specialized radar complexes — Kasta 2E2 and a 92N6 associated with an S-300/400 air defense system — near Gelendzhik.
Heavy detonations reverberated across Novorossiysk overnight as local Russian authorities issued aerial alerts warning of inbound drones and missiles, later acknowledging mass strikes targeting Novorossiysk and Anapa. OSINT investigators at the Astra Telegram channel verified that a major fire broke out on the grounds of the Novorossiysk fuel oil marine terminal.
