Ukrainian historian, MP
We have a thousand-year old tradition of statehood – from Rus, the Galicia-Volyn Principality, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Cossack State and the state formations of the 20th century.
Our state does not need an army: in 1917, many Ukrainian politicians were convinced of this. The world is tired of a long and terrible world war, and in the end, everyone will refuse to solve their problems by force of arms. And Ukraine can be an example.
Last summer, the Russian president published an article “On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians” on the Kremlin’s official website.

Putin’s speech announcing the start of hostilities, shortly after the bombing of Ukrainian cities including the capital and an offensive of large groups of Russian troops along the northern, eastern and southern borders was on Feb. 24 2022.
The current war with Russia is not only for territory as much as for an idea, a worldview that will prevail in these territories.
The 20th century is full of our mistakes, which resulted in the suffering and death of millions of Ukrainians. But in the end, we achieved our main victory – an independent Ukrainian state, which emerged in 1991.
I always add to the well-known saying: “History is the teacher of life”: a strict teacher who repeats unlearned lessons to inattentive students.
Since the large-scale Russian invasion, more and more democratic leaders have been visiting Ukraine to show their solidarity with our people. Boris Johnson met Zelensky in Kyiv and walked around the city with him.
The war of aggression, which was supposed to be a piece of cake, turned into a real hell for both parties.
