Fighters of the National Guard's 12th Special Purpose Azov Brigade captured 23 Russian soldiers in the Toretsk sector, the military wrote on Jan. 16.

The captured invaders include both those who surrendered voluntarily and those found hiding in basements or captured in combat operations.

"These Russian soldiers were fortunate to survive," Azov fighters explained.

"All of them were captured by Azov's 12th Brigade in the battles in the Toretsk direction. The prisoners are in satisfactory condition and being held in humane conditions."

They will be transferred to the appropriate authorities.

"We hope they will soon be exchanged for Ukrainian defenders held in Russian captivity," the brigade concluded.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
