Ukrainian defenders resist intense Russian attacks near Pokrovsk

Fierce battles are ongoing in the village of Novovasylivka, located south of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast, as Russian forces leverage their numerical advantage for active assault operations, DeepState monitoring group reported on Jan. 1.

The Russian troops launched intense assaults on Novovasylivka from the south and east from Dec. 30 to Jan. 1. The attacks predominantly involved infantry units, occasionally supported by armored vehicles and light artillery tanks.

“The enemy is present in every corner of the village, so Ukraine's Defense Forces are," the analysts wrote.

"In some cases, our soldiers occupy one building, while the enemy is in the next. The tactical situation is chaotic, but the enemy’s numerical superiority in manpower, unfortunately, may become the deciding factor.”

On Dec. 27, DeepState analysts reported that Russian forces had concentrated troops in Novoolenivka, Donetsk Oblast, and were preparing for an offensive toward Novoyelyzavetivka.

Overnight on Jan. 2, reports surfaced about Russian advances in the areas of Volkove, Neskuchne, Novoyelyzavetivka, Solone, Vozdvyzhenka, Kurakhove, and its southern outskirts.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
