Kremlin comments on CIA chief John Ratcliffe’s meetings in Russia

The Kremlin described CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s Aug. 25 visit to Moscow as part of contacts between U.S. and Russian intelligence services, The Washington Post reported.
“These are contacts between the security services,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, declining to provide further details.
Peskov separately told Russian state news agency TASS that no meeting between Ratcliffe and Russian leader Vladimir Putin had been planned during the CIA director’s visit.
Ratcliffe made an unannounced trip to Moscow on Aug. 25 for meetings in the Russian capital.
A U.S. military transport aircraft also landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport that day, Reuters reported, citing Flightradar24 data.
The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, bearing tail number 07-7181, arrived from Riga at around 10 a.m. Kyiv time.
Flight-tracking data showed that the aircraft had reached Riga on Aug. 23 after departing from Joint Base Andrews near Washington, D.C.
The plane left Moscow several hours after arriving.
It also emerged on Aug. 25 that the United States had asked Ukraine to refrain from attacks on Moscow, St. Petersburg and northern Russia because of visits by U.S. officials.
